Retail Common Areas

I've mostly done BOMA Office calculations and I wanted to confirm the treatment of BOMA Retail "common areas." Based on my review of the standard, it reads that common areas do not increase the Gross Leaseable Area of a Retail space in the way that service/amenity spaces add to the "Rentable" area of Offices. Is this correct? Does BOMA for Retail not have a rentable sort of number where the owner can charge for a prorated share of common areas?

Hi Molly,

That is correct. There is no allocation of common area to Gross Leasable Area in the BOMA Retail Standard. Retail is not generally leased out on that basis.

Thanks,
David
