Would hotel rooms / hotel residences follow the residential measurement standards?

David Fingret

Hi Joe,

We have applied the Multi_unit Residential standard to hotel properties before, but that is not rally the intent of the standard. The Standard states:

"This standard is not intended for application to occupancies other than multi-unit residential buildings, such as retail, office, or industrial buildings."

It should be noted that the BOMA Gross Areas Standard was developed to be applied to any building type. The latest BOMA 2018 Gross Areas standard also allows a custom breakdown of areas within the Gross Area, so you could calculate the area of individual rooms using that standard.

Thanks,
David
