What are "projections necessary for the building"?

What is consider

April 26, 2017

This was in reference to the criteria for Interior Gross Area on page 24. Specific situation is an enclosing wall with alternating glass (9 feet wide) and solid panels (3 feet wide) where the solid panels are somewhat thicker. Does the IGA boundary set by the glass line go straight through the solid panels, or only go to the interior face of the solid panels?

Hi Jeffrey,

Projections necessary to the building refers to the distinction between a decorative projection and one that is a structural requirement of the building enclosure. In your case, it's difficult to say without seeing a plan or photograph of the situation; however, you should be able to make a determination based on the aforementioned.

Thanks,
