Method B - Base Building Circulation & local building code

To Whom It May Concern,

I have a question regarding BOMA 2010 – Method B. Must Base Building Circulation (BBC) extend to every stairwell on a floor? It is stated that BBC may be extended as required by code, but is it necessary extend per code requirements?

Thank you,
John Kuczura.

John,

The idea is for BBC to be the most basic possible corridor configuration to meet code requirements for a given floor, always assuming a multi-tenant configuration (even when it's not). If there are superfluous stairs that could be removed without any effect on the code requirements for that floor, then theoretically, it may not be necessary for BBC to branch to such stairs.
