Revolving Doors

Lisa N

We have a building with a revolving door that partially extends from beyond the building (half inside, half outside). What is the proper method of measuring this in terms of GMA? My office is in disagreement as to whether to follow the outline of the door (which does have a roof above it), or follow the building envelope (since the revolving door technically doesn't have any enclosed walls).

Thank you!
Lisa

Hi Lisa,

The standard is not explicit on the matter, however we feel it is more in keeping with the spirit of the standard to follow the building line. In this sense, we treat it with the same consideration we would give to recessed entrances or the bay window as illustrated on page 12.
