Clear Height is the effective height of a space, measured from the floor to the lowest hanging obstruction, such as structural beams, joists, bulkheads, or equipment. Clear height is a vital metric in warehouse, lab, and industrial facilities because it determines the maximum height of equipment and rack storage that the space can contain. Clear height has no bearing on most area calculation standards; however, Restricted Headroom is a related concept under BOMA Standards, used to identify low-height spaces specifically.
